vintage retouching idea

still messing with the photoshop effects

as you know i have been doing alot of beauty shots for jruiz salon here in austin. well i havent posted any final shots on my website because we still have not edited. i am excited to put some ideas on the blog though to start deciding which color pallet im going to go with for final retouching. heres a fun one.

i love red heads

here is a sample of the shoot i did yesterday with the aptus 75s. so crazy. alen ruiz my hairstylist friend went nuts and created some amazing hairstyles. this one is one of my faves and the fifth look for this girl. we shot 5 models for two days. i loved every minute. its such a pleasure to work with such talented people.

a little taste from last week

this is another shoot im working on for naha, its not retouched yet but i wanna put it out there so can process my thinking. oh and an out take. it was a blast.

austin monthly november i think

last weekend i had the privilege to work with a beautiful camera, the leaf 65. wowsers. it was like going to see the eye doctor and getting that new prescription. i had no idea i was missing so much. im still working on the final retouching but here is a basic idea.

been shooting not blogging

sorry i havent kept you up to date. im building my new studio and shooting as much as i can. i cant reveal the final shots just yet but i have been shooting a bit for naha. This shot is for a test. not sure if the whole shoot worked out for hair but i do like this shot.

another from the east side series

east austin

i spent this weekend with a fantastic photographer John Langford , who invited me to partner up with him for a photography contest. we spent the entire wet and muggy weekend in the car running around east austin looking for something interesting. i wanted to try and catch a panoramic or two. here is a sample of the shoot.

we won!!!!

all the hard work paid off. after waiting for months for the results at NAHA. the beautiful crew at Jackson Ruiz Salon called me late last night screaming in my ears that we had won hairstylist of the year award. Im thrilled and i hope it brings great success to the extreamly talented team at jackson ruiz. Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed. Tania

a little vintage

being a mostly digital photographer, i have always been fascinated with methods of the past. and of course trying to replicate them. one of my favorite eras is the 20's with the muted colors and high contrast bw. this week i got to play around with two beautiful twin sisters. here is one of the head shots.

its a boy!!!

we have a new addition to the poupko family. his name is oso. my sisters neighbor claims he is a border collie although he is all white with beige. he is incredibly smart. three minutes after meeting his new family he learned how to go thru the doggy doors on his own. for the first two days he did his business outside and held it thru the night. we thought he was a genius. now we find little accidents here and there. he is really really kind, cuddly, and soft. he loves eli more than me (for now) im working on that.

my trip to mexico

last week my cousin got married in monterrey mexico. i took my camera in the hopes that i would have some time to explore the kitschy mexican side that i love. instead i spent most of the weekend at the fancy hotel where the wedding was to take place. the good news is the last day we went to my cousins ranch where i got to experiment with my lens baby.

Wade the model

recently i decided that i needed to update my website and work some of my newer out-takes into the mix. today i got inspired by a beautiful neutral tone and ran with it i saw in a magazine while getting my hair done. the model in this photographed was also an inspiration. a friend of mine met him at a blockbusters and introduced us. as soon as i saw his face i was mesmerized. to me he looked like a greek god. such a powerful jaw and depth to his eyes. i had to photograph him.

my pregnant girls

a great photographer friend of mine, susan, came to visit not too long ago. i took advantage of her amazing talents as a wedding and portrait photographer and invited my pregnant sister and best friend. we took turns with the models and i finally found my film. my best friend lisa stands like a powerful venus and my sister xochitl sits with her long hair and motherly curves reminding me of mother earth.

priscila

my dear friend priscila came into town from mexico to get some photographs to promote herself. we played around all day and came up with some really moody stuff.

concept driven

after moving to austin from miami i was inspired by a couple of friends to do a concept series. i struggled for a couple of weeks to find my voice in this series. i realized that i had many outakes from jobs i had done (mostly people shoots) that were waiting to be worked on. sampling from my archives came a fantasy series with moody skies and dramatic color.

NAHA

I did this shoot for Jackson Ruiz Salon in Austin, Tx. It was a wonderful experience because i got to work with an incredible team. The purpose of the shoot was to highlight the hair techniques in 5 models and win the hairstylist of the year award. I am happy to announce that we have been invited to Las Vegas. We have been nominated for an award!!! cross your fingers. to check out the competition you can go to NAHA
