its a boy!!!

we have a new addition to the poupko family. his name is oso. my sisters neighbor claims he is a border collie although he is all white with beige. he is incredibly smart. three minutes after meeting his new family he learned how to go thru the doggy doors on his own. for the first two days he did his business outside and held it thru the night. we thought he was a genius. now we find little accidents here and there. he is really really kind, cuddly, and soft. he loves eli more than me (for now) im working on that.

my trip to mexico

last week my cousin got married in monterrey mexico. i took my camera in the hopes that i would have some time to explore the kitschy mexican side that i love. instead i spent most of the weekend at the fancy hotel where the wedding was to take place. the good news is the last day we went to my cousins ranch where i got to experiment with my lens baby.

Wade the model

recently i decided that i needed to update my website and work some of my newer out-takes into the mix. today i got inspired by a beautiful neutral tone and ran with it i saw in a magazine while getting my hair done. the model in this photographed was also an inspiration. a friend of mine met him at a blockbusters and introduced us. as soon as i saw his face i was mesmerized. to me he looked like a greek god. such a powerful jaw and depth to his eyes. i had to photograph him.

my pregnant girls

a great photographer friend of mine, susan, came to visit not too long ago. i took advantage of her amazing talents as a wedding and portrait photographer and invited my pregnant sister and best friend. we took turns with the models and i finally found my film. my best friend lisa stands like a powerful venus and my sister xochitl sits with her long hair and motherly curves reminding me of mother earth.

priscila

my dear friend priscila came into town from mexico to get some photographs to promote herself. we played around all day and came up with some really moody stuff.

concept driven

after moving to austin from miami i was inspired by a couple of friends to do a concept series. i struggled for a couple of weeks to find my voice in this series. i realized that i had many outakes from jobs i had done (mostly people shoots) that were waiting to be worked on. sampling from my archives came a fantasy series with moody skies and dramatic color.

NAHA

I did this shoot for Jackson Ruiz Salon in Austin, Tx. It was a wonderful experience because i got to work with an incredible team. The purpose of the shoot was to highlight the hair techniques in 5 models and win the hairstylist of the year award. I am happy to announce that we have been invited to Las Vegas. We have been nominated for an award!!! cross your fingers. to check out the competition you can go to NAHA
